• Hi to all V.O.C’ers,

I am Jonathon Fairbairn and I’m the assistant trainer with the first team at V.O.C. I’m relatively new to the club, only joining at the start of this very strange season. My job is to support Mark in leading the team - I try to be active during the training sessions and to offer advice to the players, especially with the talented young players we have. If you haven’t worked it out yet - I’m that loud English trainer you have heard at V.O.C telling our strikers to ‘hit the target’. If you still can’t picture me, just look out for the guy who never goes in the middle of the rondo’s!

I’ve loved my time at the club so far but I feel like I haven’t been able to meet a lot of people around the club because of all the interruptions with corona - so I will briefly introduce myself here.

I am originally from northern England but played most of my football in Scotland. I played professionally with St Johnstone before playing/studying for four years in the USA. The majority of my career was spent at Berwick Rangers in League Two in Scotland. It was here that I also started my coaching career and quickly realised that it came much more naturally to me than playing did.

I moved to the Netherlands in 2019 with my girlfriend Sterre and continued coaching with Excelsior. I now take the o17s at Excelsior, so almost my whole week is full with football (the way I like it of course). I will move up to the o18s with Excelsior, so I am really lucky to be working with two great clubs and lots of top players.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all at the club next season, hopefully after lots of good performances from the boys on the field. We have some quality players in the squad and there is a nice balance of talented youth players and experience. So I am confident we can build some momentum and have a successful season. Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of my time at V.O.C so far, so instead I’ll share some pictures from my playing career (just to remind some of the boys that I used to play a little bit myself). Tot ziens!
